What Is Digital Printing

Full-Color Prints With No Color Limits

Digital printing — also known as DTF (Direct to Film) printing — transfers a full-color design onto fabric using a heat-pressed film. Unlike screen printing which is limited to a set number of ink colors, digital printing reproduces unlimited colors, gradients, and photographic detail with no additional cost per color.

It's the best method for complex, multi-color designs that would be expensive or impossible to screen print — think detailed illustrations, photographic graphics, tie-dye effects, or designs with dozens of colors. It also works at lower quantities where screen printing setup costs don't make sense.

At Greek Casual, all digital printing is produced in-house at our Anaheim, CA facility — giving us direct control over print quality, color accuracy, and turnaround time.

Which Method Is Right For You

Digital Printing vs Screen Printing

Both methods produce great results — the right choice depends on your design, quantity, and garment. Here's a quick guide.

Choose Digital Printing When...

  • Your design has many colors, gradients, or photographic detail
  • You're ordering a smaller quantity (under 24 pieces)
  • You want unlimited colors at no extra cost per color
  • Your design has fine detail that would be hard to screen print
  • You're printing on a dark garment with a complex light-colored design

Choose Screen Printing When...

  • You're ordering larger quantities (24+ pieces)
  • Your design uses 1–6 solid colors
  • You want the most cost-effective option at bulk quantities
  • You want the classic, bold ink-on-fabric look
  • You're printing a simple Greek letter or logo design

Common Questions

Digital Printing FAQ

DTF stands for Direct to Film. It's a digital printing method where your design is printed onto a special film, which is then heat-pressed directly onto the garment. It produces full-color, photographic-quality prints with no color limits and works on virtually any fabric type or color.
Digital printing has lower minimums than screen printing because there are no screen setup costs. In many cases we can accommodate orders as small as 6–12 pieces. Submit a quote with your quantity and we'll confirm what's available for your specific order.
Screen printing is more cost-effective at larger quantities and produces a classic bold ink-on-fabric look. Digital printing is better for complex designs with many colors, smaller quantities, or photographic detail. Many chapters use both methods depending on the garment and design — we'll recommend the best option for your specific order.
Yes. Greek Casual is an officially licensed vendor with NPC sororities, NIC fraternities, and NPHC organizations. Digital printing can be used for any licensed Greek design — letters, crests, chapter insignia — in full compliance with your national organization's requirements.
Yes — one of the key advantages of digital printing is that it produces vibrant, accurate colors on both light and dark garments without needing an underbase layer. This makes it especially effective for designs with light colors on dark fabric.
Standard turnaround is 10–14 business days after proof approval and payment. All digital printing is produced in-house at our Anaheim, CA facility. If you have a tight deadline, contact us early and we'll let you know what's possible.
High-resolution PNG files with a transparent background work best for digital printing. Vector files (.AI, .EPS) are also ideal. If you don't have ready artwork, our team can help create or prepare your design as part of the order.
